Open Program Class Descriptions
Beginning I: Introductory Ballet I
- This is an introduction to ballet for students who have had no previous training.
- Students are introduced to ballet terminology, basic ballet positions, steps, and etiquette.
- This level works at the barre with two hands before moving into the center.
Beginning II: Elementary Ballet A
- Students at this level are expected to know the basic positions, steps, and terminology
- The barre work is done with both one hand and two hands
- Students continue to work on the coordination of the port de bras with the legs
- Students work on the basic steps as well as combining those steps into common phrases
Beginning III: Elementary Ballet B
- Students at this level are expected to know the basic positions, steps, and terminology, and be ready to piece them together
- The barre work is done with one hand and two hands
- This level focuses on the execution of basic steps as well as combining those basic steps into common phrases
- This class serves as a bridge to the intermediate level
Intermediate
- Students in this level are expected to know the basic positions, steps, terminology, and be ready to use their ballet knowledge to put together more complex combinations.
- There is an emphasis on executing technique properly as well as the artistry within the epaulement.
- Faster footwork and musicality is explored in more depth at this level
Pointe
- The Pointe class is held at a Beginning/Intermediate level
- Students interested in beginning pointe work should consult with one of our faculty members to see if they are ready for pointe work.
- Students brand new to pointe work are recommended to take a few pointe privates before joining the class or should wait for the next beginning pointe workshop.
